Prolactin Test

• The Prolactin Test is an examination using a blood sample taken from a vein in the arm to measure the concentration of prolactin in the blood.
• Prolactin is a hormone produced by the anterior part of the pituitary gland, and is usually found in low concentrations in the blood of men and non-pregnant women.

Benefits of Prolactin Test

• Evaluation of the condition of galactorrhea (milk discharge from the nipple that is not related to normal breast milk production or not during breastfeeding), absence of menstrual periods and/or infertility in women; help diagnose the causes of decreased libido and/or erectile dysfunction in men; detecting and monitoring prolactin-producing pituitary tumors (prolactinomas)
